Summary0004403: Engineering Unit not complete
Description

For Engineering Units we currently provide unitId, displayName and description.

However, organizations like the UN with the UNECE recommendation and ISO (with ISO 80000) provide more information. In particular:

  • a quantity to which the unit belongs (like space, time, mechanics) and
  • a conversion factor to SI units

The quantities are defined in ISO 80000-1 (see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Quantities).
This information is useful for some applications and we could add new properties to provide it.
Creating an ISO 80000 dictionary could be an alternative to a property for quantity.

Fixed in OPC 10000-8 - UA Specification Part 8 - DataAccess 1.05.3 Draft 7.docx

Defined a “Quantity Model” which can be referenced from EngineeringUnit Properties.
The model defines quantities and assigned units.
In addition is provides alternative units and the conversion to them.
