I think it is not possible to pass the Compliance Test if your Items requires such special values at write.
Is it possible to exclude these special Items from the Compliance Test?
I know that other vendor’s excludes such Items also from the test. E.g. if you have a Item with type VT_BSTR and the server expects strings with a fixed length.
You can choose the items that are used in the test |

Unfortunately all our items behave in the same way.
This is a very bad news since we are working hard to get the next version of our OPC Server product compliant.
Do you have some idea on how we can overcame this issue:
Do you think that is possible that a new version of CTT foresees the possibility of configuring the write values?
It is possible to get the compliance excluding the write test and adding some comments explaining the server behaviour?
We are planning to come to the next Interoperability Workshop on September 22-26 in Nuremberg. If you will be there maybe we can discuss and try to find a solution together. What do you think?

You could create a 'simulated' device which responds like your real devices, however, it can handle arbitrary writes for purposes of the CTT. It would still be a valid test of your server provided the simulated device uses the exactly the same DA server logic to handle OPC I/O.

Randy,
the problem is not at device level since our server checks if the command is valid before sending it to the field.
At any time each item has a list of valid commands related to its state.
Ex.
ITEM: DETECTOR
STATE: ALARM UNACK (502)
COMMANDS: ACK (1)
or
ITEM: ZONE
STATE: QUIET (1000)
COMMANDS: DISCONNECT (128), TEST (16)
If the server receives a write check if it corresponds to a valid command, if not the write is rejected and no messages are sent to the field device.
If the command is outside our range I am not able to format a message that has to be sent out to the field.
