OPC Data Access Specification

Mission Statement

  • To develop a revised (version 2) data access specification.
  • Version 2 of the COM/Custom interface will include minor revisions based on user feedback; primarily to replace the IDataObject callback with a ConnectionPoint based callback. Connection points are a newer technique which should be easier to implement. It is the intent that 1.0 Custom servers can be converted with minimal work to 2.0 servers.
  • Version 2 of the Automation interface will be heavily revised to more closely follow the Automation object model. It is not expected that old automation code can easily be modified to adhere to the new design however it is our hope to provide generic reusable sample code that will ease this task.
  • To develop sample code for the version 2 Custom and Automation Interfaces in order to make it easier for vendors to implement these interfaces. If possible the Automation code should be generic and easily reuasable.
  • To also deliver a standard Proxy/Stub DLL which can be downloaded and used by any vendor.
